Finding your Rhythm

Do you prioritize by your standards or by everyone else’s standards?

Just in case you were wondering, yes. The answer is yes, and I am the type of person who chooses to run outside every Thursday morning when I hear the garbage man coming. Maybe it’s the rush that I get from my [responsible] neighbors seeing me speeding around in the cold with no shoes and no bra? Maybe it’s the fact that I don’t feel like taking the cans to the curb on Wednesday night when I come home. All I can tell to for sure is that this happens every Thursday around 7:00 am. We joke about how our neighbors must all be drinking their coffee while watching their phones at 7:00 am to watch ‘the weekly show’ on their security camera app, making bets whether it’s myself or my husband this time. It must be like a magic show for the garbage man: *POOF* On his way back down the hill on the south side of Norma Jean Way, two more cans appear. But do you know what? Boom. Mission accomplished. Why am I talking about the garbage man and my Thursday morning tradition? I want to show you an example of how prioritizing things differently can give you the same exact result, even if others may turn their nose up at it.

Everyone has their own rhythm and it’s easy to be thrown off track my others’ visual story. I say visual story, because we are in a time where social media is perceived to be reality. If you work better under pressure, work under pressure. If you’re able to prioritize tasks and get them finished before your deadline, you can take it easy and high five yourself in the mirror.

Don’t worry about what other people say they’re doing, because it’s usually skewed to make them look like they’re doing slightly better than everyone else. Keep in alignment with your goal and keep your tunnel vison on full force. You’ve got this, even if some people pretend and make you think that they’ve got it a little better.
