Week 8 | Monthly Book Recs!!
This month was a BUST! I only read 4 books this month, and the only one I want to recommend it “Slewfoot.” I don’t want to share books that I didn’t want to put down, and the other three books were among the few I had to FORCE myself to read because they couldn’t keep my attention. Although Slewfoot was one that I wanted to slip into October recs, but sadly it didn’t happen… so I apologize! But if you’re a weirdo like me, and grew up with the notion of ‘when two holidays collide’ -an phrase only few will get- you’ll still appreciate a creepy read well into the holiday season!
SLEWFOOT!!! Oh. My. GOSH! This book should be a movie and totally gave ‘The Village’ vibes, a movie throwback from 2004. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s witchy, actually scary to read at night, and kept my attention. Although it was technically not what I’d call ‘an easy read,’ it was beautifully written, poetic in its way or words, it’s leaving me wanting to go back to Salem, Ma, and just be there for the weekend.
What can I say without giving too much away… It’s about an average looking girl who is married off to a disabled man. Taking place in ‘the olden days’ as we put it, when woman weren’t given much right to anything. There are monsters, claims of witchcraft, creatures of the forest, and an entity we will call ‘death,’ who we see a softer side of. Something happens, or a turn of events rather, and our main character appears different one day; Beautiful, full of life a color, and refreshed looking.
That’s all I want to say, but it’s a sweet, twisted sort of a love story… kind of? It’s a beautiful read, a beautiful cover, and a story like I’ve never read before. I can’t wait for the movie to series to release… because it’s THAT good!
